Re-installed Mepis on an old computer and it runs fine except
after giving it free access to the harddrive there were 136 upgrades.
Synaptic to upgrade all of them.....It has taken three hours so far.
Question....is that unusual? I'll let it run all night if I have to but
seems like an awfully long time to me.
Thanks

Are you on broadband or dial-up ? The biggest update I've done so far took about 20 min. on BB. You might switch repository's and see if that helps.

NO ONE, thanks.....yes I'm on cable broad band.....I don't know how to switch
repositories....any further help appreciated...
EDIT: Thanks again....got it...I just took a stab at one of the
repositories listed and it worked.....

Yeah, changing repository servers can have a dramatic affect on speed. I use one that's in Canada, rather than the main or main USA servers. Fewer people overall=faster downloads.

You're welcome
joe883, Glad that worked

I'm using "http://distro.ibiblio.org...." myself lately.

I don't find too many people using Mepis OS.....I like it over Ubuntu myself.
Yesterday and a good part of the evening I refigured Guard Dog (it was blocking my mail)
Oh, I also have Thunderbird and Klam AV up and running..

Have never tried Mepis OS , definitely didn't like Ubuntu, I think Kanotix 2005 used Guarddog (I ran it as live only) . Have you been to their forum at
http://mepislovers.org/forums/index.php ? I use T-bird as well , have since 0.8.x (?) or there abouts. I've got Qtfprot, got it through Synaptic, instead of Klam, run it once a month or so when I'm bored.

I've looked at Mepislovers Forum and have now signed on.
Thanks for the info.
