Hello Sniper47,

You can still install updates manually. Posts 3 and 6, you need information from both, explain how here: http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/index.php?showtopic=17852

I do not know, however, how long these updates will be available. I would advise looking for other AntiSpyware programs. Bleeping Computer has a list here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic3616.html

do NOT have the computer connected to the internet while doing the scan ; when I AM connected I ahve my two green computers in my system tray; they are there now as I am on line; when I disconnect they are NOT there
how do YOU connect to the internet?

-Cloud
i connect via a wireless connection but why do you have to be offline when doin the scan???

i connect via a wireless connection

but you have to click on something to connect you TO the internet once you have booted up dont you?

if all else fails run it ON line but far preferable OFF line

or even better run in computers safe mode
-Cloud
but why do you have to be offline when doin the scan???
boopme
Actually you are better served to run SUPERAntispyware from safe mode, This will prevent any running programs interference.
Reboot into Safe Mode then scan
How to enter safe mode(XP)
Using the F8 Method
Restart your computer.
When the machine first starts again it will generally list some equipment that is installed in your machine, amount of memory, hard drives installed etc. At this point you should gently tap the F8 key repeatedly until you are presented with a Windows XP Advanced Options menu.
Select the option for Safe Mode using the arrow keys.
Then press enter on your keyboard to boot into Safe Mode.

They may correct me as I'm assuming. I feel they are just wanting you to be free of a live connection and possible scan inteference from contracting new malware as you scan for what is present. That is basically the same as using safe mode. Safe mode is a better option as only the minimal amount of application and drivers are loadefd so any runnning malware should also be stopped and easier to remove in this state.

okay thank you :D, ermm just as a side note i might be going off the topic now but i just wanted to ask, is it advisable/recommended to scan with any security software application (not just superantispyware) in windows safe mode?

i think thats all, thank you for everyone for helping me thumbup.gif

All that I know even Online scans run more effectively in safe mode, with the exception of MalwareBytes. That is better run from normal.
ruby1
when you run any scan , you wish it to complete as soon as possible BUT also run thoroughly? yes?

in order to facilitate this it is good practice to run a scan while the computer IS off line

I had, on one thread, someone who was running TWO scans symultaneously, and while ON line and posting to the forum AND sending emails

they were kinda wondering why the scans seemed to be taking so long to run ............

it is your computer ...but the suggestion is to run each scan OFF line and prefereably IN computer's safe mode excect as stated the malawarebytes scan

I hope that clarifies a wee bit
-Cloud
thank you for your explanations :D
Sniper47
OK,I ve read entire thread.Hope Lavasoft will keep those updates, otherwise I will start using Superantispyware. What I need is realtime protection. Most people recommend spyware doctor or superantispyware.
boopme
I use Superantispyware (paid version) as that has realtime protection.

According to Nick Skrepetos, scanning with SUPERantispyware in SAFE mode offers no benefit in terms of detecting and removing spyware, unless an infection is actually preventing or slowing down the scan. See this specific discussion here:

Ad-Aware 2008 is out in beta, and it promises to be a great product. It offers a new AntiVirus Engine and faster scanning speed. Lets hope this one is an improvment.
