Hi all, my first post!
I've recently setup a home network w/ 3 computers (XP Pro for two of them, Vista Home Basic for one). It works fine, I can access the shared folders, shared printer, etc. The question is...what are the advanced possibilities? There are two things I'd like to do if it is possible:
1) When I log into a folder not typically shared: "Frozenbase's My Music" folder, it always prompts me to login. I type "Guest" here and no password, and it works fine. (PS: Anyway to skip this prompt?) But it made me think. Is there some way to access the unshared "Frozenbase's My Documents" on Computer 1 from Computer 2? Perhaps by logging in using my credentials of Computer 1 when I get such a prompt as I do when I go into the My Music folder?
2) Taking this a step further: and this may be directly related, in the Access Control List for a folder, where I set the permissions, on the Advanced tab, there is the textbox "From this location". If I click the "Location" button, it only shows, say, Computer 1. Is there a way to make Computer 2 appear on Computer 1's permissions list? Thus, I could make a folder on Computer 1 have permissions for "Computer 2/Frozenbase"? If this were possible, that may help my question #1 above. However, googling, it seems this may be limited because I'm on a workgroup and not a domain...if I were on a domain the other computers would appear here?
Thanks for any insights! I feel that the login prompt for My Music suggest more potential than I'm using.
