Hi..

I recently bought a new Laptop and I want to transfer my files (mostly family vids and pics) from the old Desktop I'm using to this Latptop.

Both computers are running on Windows XP SP2 and i heard that other people use Home Network (workgroups/file and printer sharing) and that allows them to share a file from one computer to another.

So here's the setup:

Desktop - connected to the Router/Modem through a CAT5 cable (wired).
Laptop - connected to the Router/Modem wirelessly.

My Router/Modem is - ProLink H9300G

Can someone help me or guide me on how to make a Workgroup that'll allow me to transfer big files from my old desktop to this new laptop.

Thank you! You'll save me lotsa time and work.

Through my experience file sharing wirelessly when IP's are automaticly assigned is a bit tricky, so i always assign a fixed IP to the wirelessly connected PC.

First we need to check your IP range.
Second assign a fixed IP to the desktop PC
Third Assign a fixed PC to the Laptop.

And configure evrything to make then still have internet access and enable file sharing on them.
I'll also teach you a couple of trick to browse a PC from the other one so you will be able to simply copy/paste data from one PC to the other.

That's how i do it,

Let me know if you wanna go through it.

Regards.
