Hello I just got this computer from a friend he got infected and now the computer will start but windows does not open. I get startup recovery could not fix the problem. I wanna know if wiping out everything is the only solution.

looks like vista, and if the auto repair option does not work, we would need to know what symptoms of malware before it quit booting?
