I burned a data cd with pictures using an external burner yesterday. Problem is, my internal cd drive wont read it or any burned cd's. I checked the event viewer and have about 200+events stating "The driver detected a controller error on \Device\CdRom3."
But the cd drive will read software cd's, driver cd's and windows reinstall cd just fine.

Try reloading the driver. Open the Device Manager (Start > Run > type "devmgmt.msc"). Locate the CD/DVD drive, right click on it and select "Uninstall". After it has uninstalled reboot the computer (it will be automatically reinstalled).

I would check the connections for all drives, especially for whichever drive is CDROM3.

Loose or bad connections is one of the causes of such errors, bad cables can also create this error.
