I built my own PC, E6750 intel core 2 duo, Gigabyte 965P-DS3, 2 gigs of ram

When I bought all the parts, I got an ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro 92mm CPU Cooler ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16835186134 )

It would only run at 800 RPM and its rated for 900-2500, so I changed it out for the stock one. It worked fine for a while, but now my PC keeps running at high temps.

72C/ 162F at full load (Burning/converting a DVD)

I think this is pretty damn hot. What can I do about this?


I currently have a side window fan (90mm) with a tubular housing pointing straight at the CPU heatsink, as well as the heatsink fan. Also an intake fan lower front of the case, and a large exhaust in the back (160mm? w/e the next bigger one is)


What do you think I should do? I see theres a program called Speedfan, but it wont let me adjust any of my fan speeds. I think it has to do with motherboard support or something.

Any help? Think I should try to put the old huge one back in, try just cleaning it off and reapplying the stock one, or get a new one?

My AMD XP 2800 runs at 181F when doing DVD work and idles
around 160F. I've seen where this is considered hot, but i've never had
any problems.

Freezer 7 Pro's fan is controlled from bios with a 4 wire connector, was it set up right, the preapplied compound is cruddy

Okay so my temps arent really that high? Thats what it seems like.

I was worried, my Sensorsview keeps popping up and saying my CPU is hot.

Also, now my PC is idling, only firefox open at 42C/ 108F. This is acceptable correct?

42 degrees C is within tolerances. One of the programs that I have found to consistently mirror the temperatures in the BIOS is Everest Home Edition. Try it and see if the temperatures are reading the same. It's possible that in the process of changing the fans on the CPU heat sink you have dislodged the heat sink enough to effect the application of the thermal compound. Try re-applying the compound and see if this make a difference.

different families of cpu's have different design limits

you can google and find yours, I suspect it's close to 75C

His was 85C

Mine is about 60-65C

MY idle is 30-35C
load 40-50C

I have a 10C safety margin, I get a small fan and direct it into the case when I get above 50C

Those are your cpu's and you can do with them as you please, mine has been running at 25% overclock stable as a rock doing video conversions for 2 1/2 years, no crashes, no warnings

Half the people say you'll burn up your cpu's by overclocking, the other half say don't worry about high temperatures
