hey i was wondering i have dell laptop with vista premium 32x my desktop has the same thing the thing is i have this memory check thing that runs on it every once in a while its not old laptop its only 4 months old with 2 g and 160 hard drive it doesnt run it all the time but maybe everyonce ina while it will do it before u log on it will say checking memory status checking drives then it goes 2 all the way up to 100 percent then finally logs in

There probably is a control panel of some sort to set the duration of the scans.

Try this:

click start>administrative tools>memory diagnostics tool>click restart now

Let it run, then you should be ok.
