Yesterday, on April 8th. I turned off the computer before I went to bed and it wanted to install the updates, so I was like, no harm in that right? Wrong. I got home from school today and my mouse didn't respond, no cursor or anything. Its not my USB ports because the mouse lit up on the bottom. I tried another mouse to see if it was the mouse and it didnt work either. I had a feeling it was vista. I dont know if it was the updates for sure, but it might have something to do with it.

Plz respond.

PS. Im on my other computer right now.

There seem to be many people with mouse problems after the vista update last night...

Yet another bad patch??

Hi!
I´ve got pure Microsoft Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse. Vista Business did yesterday *THAT UPDATE*.
Also facing the same problem - no mice work after that. Tried 3 different mice, none of them work.
MS guys should better fix this s**t before i go back to Win XP.
This isnt the first time when problems occur under Vista.
Why the f*** did they do Vista so much different from XP ????

P.s.
I tried to uninstall those updates mentioned above, then restarted Vista using "last good configure"
(before Windows is loading press F8). I see two chances - wether new updates will fix this issue or i must format C

Any luck?

I did a restore point and put it back to where i updated it and it worked fine.
firewolf
nah, lucky You!
I have turned off System Restore because of my 20 Gb hard drive. Also I have heard that it makes computer bit slower because restore point takes recources both from HDD and CPU. And since i have laptop, i`ve turned off all thing that i dont need

Wonder if it is possible to install Windows Vista unlimited times (when registering thru network)??
mateojack100
Im not sure. you may just have to wait til MS gets around to it.

Lucky you.... After the update my cursor vanished, my touchpad doesn't respond and neither does the keyboard. Safemode didn't help either and like firewolf my system restore is disabled. I think my only option is reinstalling Vista... hopefully it'll work and repair the damage. Oh did I mention I hate Vista?

Surfing around Microsoft page, found similar discussion about this topic:

People have managed out, that "the bad guy" is update KB938371 !!!! Although this fact doesnt help us anymore. Uninstalling this is useless. It has already overwritten Windows files. I wonder what files were changed by this update... maybe this helps to solve the problem by copy-paste these files/regKeys manually....

have you tried another USB port or gone to device manager in the control panel under hardware and sound and tried to uninstall it and put your mouse back in see if it installs the drivers for it or it even sees it's actually plugged in just think that it might of been windows done something to the mouse driver or USB port
although i never got this problem its worth a try smile.gif

Have you tried to uninstall the update through add and remove programs.(then reboot) Here is a link to key board short cuts if anyone is interested. http://www.cantoraccess.com/keyaccess/keyaccessfaq.htm#c3
firewolf
I think that uninstalling is impossible, because Windows system files are overwitten (read: "updated").
mateojack100
thats how i did it.
firewolf
Why do I have this feeling that they will never launch update in order to fix the problem. Most laptops/pcs under Vista doesnt have this problem
mateojack100
because they dont care unless about 50% or more have the problem, thats my thinking. Reinstall vista then update except the bad one
The Larry
Accidentally started a new thread on this issue. Any chance a mod can delete it?

In any event, my HP m1095c box got bit by this and I was able to get back on the air, but am prompted for USB mouse and USB hub drivers with each login. Canceling the driver search allows me to work, but each login by any user gets prompted again. If I let it try to install the drivers it kills the mouse and removes the cursor and states that it failed. Only way to get it working after that is a System Restore.

Any tips would be welcome.

Sweet, that *is* a helpful response; I knew I would find the help I needed here. clapping.gif

I guess if you haven´t turend off System Restore, then this is the best solution. But if you have, then i think the only solution is to reinstall Vista. Since the day of that bad updatade no fixes have been launched. So if you cant work without USB mouse/kboard, then you should restore your pc/laptop to factory state... but this, as you know, erases all data, including installed programs.

p.s.
I will soon go back to XP. <<<<<<<<<<<not only because of this problem, but also i cannot use some essential progs normally (like PuTTy...etc)

Anyone have an update on this issue? Still happens to me, but canceling out each reboot/user change has been working.

Seems to have affected new device driver installations in general, not just USB for me. For example, plugging in my firewire portable drive for the first time won't work, but plugging in my firewire video camera that I used before the problem crept up still works fine.
