My daughter's computer is infected with spyware.

These are the things I am seeing and what had been done BEFORE she came and got me:

The desktop background is blue in the middle in yellow writing it says:

Warning: Spyware threat has been detected on your PC
(under that is a yellow line, under the yellow line is white writing that says):
Your computer has several fatal errors due to spyware activity
It is strongly recommended to install and antispyware software to close all security vulnerablilities.
If you click the "to repair click here" (more or less) it takes you to a website link for Spyware Clean Up Utilities

There is a red bordered and headered pop up that says:
Windows Security Center system warning
Alert Details
File:
C:\WINDOWS\swin32.dll
Threat:
2nd Thought
Possible spyware infection has been detected on your computer by Windows Security Center

There is a bubble that pops up that says:
Your computer is infected with spyware
Windows has detected spyware on your PC

There is another window that pops up that says:
TrojanDownloader.XS it indicates in color the threat is HIGH
When click: "To Remove detected threat please click here"
it takes me to website for:
AntispyStorm2008 (which she downloaded an ran, but did do anything with)
and SpyMaxx

Installed and ran a-squared security center, deleted all the things that came up without saving the report, and still all these items are on the computer and there are tons of pop-ups warnings for spyware.

Can you help me please?

I'm afraid you've been contaminated. Do you have an antivirus? An anti-spyware? You'll need to clean your computer.

Hi and welcom to this site; can you please tell us what your windows version is, what your installed antivirus program is and,apart from the 'bogus' programs she seems to have dowloaded what other protection you have on there ? when did you last fully update and run your protection programs?

Yes, the machine is infected but the alerts about detected spyware requiring you to download a program to remove it are bogus.

Please answer ruby1's questions, then do this:

Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.

• Make sure you are connected to the Internet.
• Double-click on Download_mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
• When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings.
• When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:
  • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
• Then click Finish.

MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan.

• If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself.
• Press the OK button to close that box and continue.
• If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install.

On the Scanner tab:

• Make sure the "Perform Quick Acan" option is selected.
• Then click on the Scan button.
• If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.
• The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
• When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
• Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.

Back at the main Scanner screen:

• Click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
• Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
• When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to restart your computer. (see Note below)
• The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
• Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply and exit MBAM.

Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts. Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.
