The first thing to try is the Startup Repair tool: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial148.html

After that, take a look in your Event Viewer for errors. Look specifically in the Application and System logfiles in the Windows logs section. To do this, go to Start and type in "eventvwr.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter.

The System errors are the most serious, but the Application errors can have faults here also. Try to link the times of the problems to the time of the errors.

Finally, I'd also suggest a few free online scans to rule out malware: Be advised that some of these scanners will pickup things in "quarantine" from other anti-virus programs - so review the results carefully:

If it turns out that you've got an infection, I'd suggest posting over in the "Am I Infected?" forum located here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/forum103.html
