Full Version: My Father Is Infected On His Computer
BleepingComputer.com > Security > Am I infected? What do I do?

Hi, I was showing my dad a website and now he has an issue with his computer. It keeps saying he has spyware on his computer. His background on his desktop has also been hijacked and says "Warning: Spyware threat has been detected on your pc. Your computer has several fatal errors due to spyware activity. It is strongly recommended to install an antispyware software to close all security vulnerabilities. Antispyware software helps protect your pc against spyware and other security threats."

I have tried running combofix, malbytes and spybot. None of these have taken care of the issue so far. If need be I can post a log from combofix and also hijackthis logs. I have them for the computer.

The other thing it keeps popping up at the bottom that the computer has spyware. It is annoying my father to no end. He didn't have any anti-virus or anything turned on at the time. sad.gif

Also task manager is disabled and not sure why.

I hope someone can help me with this. Thanks a million...

Hello SoulFlower and welcome to BC welcome.gif

What is the operating system: Windows XP, Vista, etc.?

What was the website in question that led to the infection? Please put the URL within these: <> and leave no spaces between the arrows and the URL characters.

What security programs, besides Spybot and MalwareBytes, do you have installed? Please name them.

tried running combofix

ComboFix is an extremely powerful tool which should only be used when instructed to do so by someone who has been properly trained. ComboFix is intended by its creator to be "used under the guidance and supervision of an expert", NOT for private use. Please read Combofix's Disclaimer. Using this tool incorrectly could lead to disastrous problems with your operating system such as preventing it from ever starting again.

What security program are the alerts trying to get you to download and install?

the operating system is XP Home edition.

<www.surfthechannel.com> he was looking under the Batman the old Adam west series.

My dad had no real other security programs on his computer. He didn't have any anti-virus turned on or even windows update turned on his computer. I know we ran the combofix by the instructions of another forum, but it didn't do anything to help the issues.

I am unforunately not at his computer here, so I am not sure exactly what programs it is wanting him to get, but it is a list of various spyware removal software. It just keeps saying he is infected.
