hello hennessy,

I believe you are using a router to connect to the internet. is this correct? The way it works is fairly straight forward, Your computer connects to the router and is given a number in order for it to be recognised(in this case 192.168.1.101) The router connects to the ISP and will be given a number in order to be recognised. When you view a site you identify yourself, as a result the information can be displayed back to you.

To give you some idea as to how much information you send out when viewing a page, have a look at http://www.danasoft.com/
killqueen
cmd>ipconfig /all
your gateway ip address:192.168.1.1
open your IE type 192.168.1.1
type uername password
ok look your IE
get it
usasma
Just to furthere confuse the issue - the 192.168.... is your internal, private LAN IP address
The one at Danasoft is your external, public WAN IP address

All of these terms are used to identify your computer - both on your home network and the internet.

The second link put me on the other side of the country to where I am.

The connection must go through an ISP, sometimes these searches just show where the ISP lives.
