Hi All,

Right, i have tried two keyboards on my PC now and neither of them are working, the lights flash when the PC is turned on but when i press any keys theres nothing, ive been able to use the on-screen keyboard to log into windows and do bits and bobs, however i thought just reinstalling vista might be the easiest way of fixing this.

HOWEVER.....vista was preinstalled when i bought the PC and to do a clean install i have to press F8 during boot and choose the selection etc, problem is with the keyboards not working i cant press F8 mad.gif

Anyone got any ideas on maybe the problem with the keyboards not working / how to do a new install in this situation?

Thanks

have you checked the keyboard on another computer to see if it works?
if you have/the key board works then try this

disconnect you keyboard
go to the device manger in vista.
You can do this by:
clicking the Start button, typing device in the Start Search box, and then clicking Device Manager in the Programs list.

locate your keyboard in the list right-click and select uninstall

restart the computer and try plugging the keyboard back in and see if it works

Keyboard worked fine the night before, PC was shut down and then restarted the next day, no changes. Also the other keyboard worked fine previously aswell.

will attempt to uninstall through device manager.

Also PC not booting up normally, will take several minutes to actually boot rather than a few seconds as normal - this is why i was looking towards a clean install

*UPDATE*

Turned in the PC last night and the keyboard was working, uninstalled the drivers anyways and restarted, logged in using the on screen keyboard, no request to install drivers for the keyboard, nothing under device manager and not working.

Restarted again, hammered the F8 key, managed to get into the boot menu and selected for windows repair, reinstalled vista, was working fine when i left it last night. (well the keyboard was, look out for a new post with slow start up lol)

Not really sure what was happening but decided to do a clean install whilst i had the chance and fingers crossed the keyboard will stay working, gotta be the simplest part of a PC but god cant it nacker you up when its not working lol
