I have a laptop computer its a Nec Versa 6030x .I need to know how i can get windows 95 back on it it was lost .When someone tried to put windows 98 on it. I can get it to the C:\> promt. I format the hard drive and ran a 95 bootdisk. The thing ig is you have to take out the floppy out and put the cddrive in. I can't seem to boot from cdrom it is called Hard Disk 1 and can't change it the order to boot from.Can someone please help me?

First question is why would you want to install Windows 95?
That is ok so long as the computer never goes on the Internet.
No antivirus/antispyware program that I know of will run with 95 anymore.
Windows 95 cd's are not bootable. Load 98 if you have it.
Windows SE cd's ar bootable.
Nec has drivers back to Windows 3.1 on this system.

The reason I would like to install 95 is the computer can only handle 95 on it. My kids would like to play with it and some games they have can play on it.I have a windows 98 disk thats what got it to this point wright know. Thats why I'm tring to fix it so they can play with it. Do i have to get 95 on floppy disks to boot it up? 
You are right. The system only has 16 megs of ram on it. 95 will work with that just fine, 98 wont like it.

The original 95 floppies came in DMF format (Distribution Media Format).
The disks contaned 1.7 megs each which is more than a standard floppy can hold.
Also, floppies fail over time. It would be better if you had a cd.
You also need the video & audio drivers from the link above
File names vidcrd95.exe & l6220b95.exe
Download them & burn them onto cd for when you need them.

You will need a bootable floppy that has CD Rom divers on it. You will have to edit the Config.sys and Autoexec.bat files to add the driver names and properties to them. It would also be nice if you had Format.com and maybe Fdisk.exe on the floppy.
Then you boot up from floppy. At the A:\ prompt just type in Format C:\ and enter and follow the instructions. After the format is complete at the A:\ prompt just type in Copy *.* C:\. This will copy all the boot files and system files so you can now boot as normal to C drive. Put your CD Rom back in and restart you computer. If your CD Rom drivers are working correctly after boot up just type D: and enter then Setup and enter.
As Eyesee says the Win95 CD isn't bootable.

Sorry Keith but that wont work. You have to sys the drive to make it bootable in 95 & 98.

Instructions assume you have a 95 cd and a cd key. Look for a sticker on the bottom of the laptop for a sticker that has the key on it. It is usually there

Type FORMAT C: & hit enter. (caps not necessary just for clarity)
When format is complete type C: & hit ENTER
The prompt will say C:>
Type MD WIN95 & hit ENTER

I know you have to use Sys.com but it depends if he has this on the floppy.

It does work I've just tried it. You have to remove the Hidden attributes of Io.sys and Msdos.sys first using Attrib.exe. I have 32 files on my boot disk
Attrib.exe, Autoexec.bat, Cdromdrv.sys, Command.com, Config.sys, Country.sys, Dblbuff.sys, Debug.exe, Display.sys, Drvspace.bin, Edit.com, Edit.hlp, Ega.cpi, Emm386.exe, Fdisk.exe, Format.com, Himem.sys, Ifshlp.sys, Io.sys, Keyb.com, Keyboard.sys, Mode.com, Mouse.com, Mouse.ini, Mscdex.exe, Msdos.sys, Mtmcdai.sys, Oakcdrom.sys, Scandisk.exe, Scandisk.ini, Setver.exe and Sys.com.
It will configure both of my CD Roms at the same time.
I do have a windows 95 cd. I also have the drivers . Sound like fun to me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. thank you guys for taking the time to help me . So what should i do first? the hard drive is formated so then what should I do?
A lot of people dont want to deal with Windows 95 anymore.
Believe me, if I had a dollar for every Windows 95 installation I have done I would be living in the Bahamas!

Always copy Windows 95 & Windows 98 cab files to the hard drive and install from there!
