hello, this is my first post here, and it juuust might be my last on this computer.
it seems that it's coming to the end for this thing. there's definitely a huge amount of viruses and spyware and junk on it.
it's a windows xp, sp2, compaq presario sr2010nx. i don't know what other details you need...except for the symptoms i guess.

here they are, as i encountered them...
-at first, the computer was just running really slow.
-aol wouldn't open up. it said something like "low memory" or something, but i was not running anything else at the time. luckily, before this all happened, i had downloaded a win xp startup disc, which took care of the aol problem. but it got a lot worse.
-sometimes, the computer just doesn't start. i had to restart it a couple times to get it to startup.
-explorer.exe sometimes likes to close and open back up again for no reason. sometimes, it does not open back up, and i have to Run it myself.
-on startup, it says "explorer.exe - Bad Image" or something of the sort.
-then when it starts up, it says jkkjk.exe not found.
-about a week ago, desktop buttons for "uncensored porn" and "bsdm galleries" (probably the same thing) appeared.
-just today now, there's taskbar icon things for "windows security alerts", yellow triangles with a ! in it.
-POPUPS ALL OVER THE PLACE, again, this just started happening today.

that's all i can think of for now. it's very, very hard to even do anything on this computer anymore. i would do a system recovery, but when i do, it comes up a blue screen and says "windows logon process terminated unexpectedly" and then a message. and it sits there, and i have to shut the power completely off and start it up normally. system restore doesn't work either. so if anything, i would like to just do a complete system recovery...if you can get it to work...

thanks in advance to anyone that replies.

well, here's the log. the scan didn't really do much. aol still doesn't start without the startup disc, it's still displaying that "windows has detected spyware infection" with the yellow triangle in the taskbar, still pop ups, the only thing i noticed is that it started up a little quicker.

Hi , You sure had a lot of crapola on this PC. Do you have an Antivius program installed?
Lets's get all the stuff off first than we'll get AOL back.

Run these online scans
ESET Online Scanner

Panda ActiveScan?

Then follow this BC Tutorial
How to Remove WinFixer / Virtumonde

Tell us how the PC is running now.

MikeD1029
i told you my computer was junk.
and i don't have an antivirus installed...
also, i should've told you before i have dial-up...that sure makes things more difficult for me. an 8 MB download is like a big thing. then the eset online scanner said 'update failed' and it just sat there for 20 minutes with that message displayed.
i'm trying the vundofix now.

is there any way you could just get the computer to a point where system recovery will work? because i think it would just be easier to do that than go through all this mess...system recovery would get rid of all the viruses and junk, right? i don't care if i lose programs or anything...i just want it to work...

i'll let you know how it goes after vundofix i guess.
MikeD1029
vundofix removed 2 things. i don't know if there's a log and where to find it, or if you need it.

the log for the virtumundobegone: (apparently nothing)

Well you're pretty clean now. You should start a new topic in the proper Operating system forum with your other problem. Or tolearn how to restore or format.
MikeD1029
well it doesn't seem like i'm clean, the computer's still starting up pretty slow, the 'windows security alert' is still in the taskbar, still spyware alerts popping up, and aol still doesn't work without the startup disc in.

do you have any other ideas?

and btw, thanks for helping me get whatever i got off of here so far.
boopme
You cn run the scans again they may still find pieces and left overs that could not be fully cleaned. But If you are going to travel the net without at least an AV it won't be long till your PC just shuts itself back down.
You can also post a HiJack This log here and get further help deep cleaning the machine
Preparation Guide for use before posting a HijackThis Log
And You're welcome.
MikeD1029
like i said before, i have dial-up, and i like to skip downloading things if i can. therefore, i went straight to downloading hijackthis...i don't know if that is a big deal or not. but i have the log...i don't know what to fix or anything or what's wrong, but i guess that's why my computer is so screwed up...

I have moved your Topic that includes a HijackThis log here to the Misplaced HJT Logs forum. You posted your log in a forum not intended for HijackThis logs analysis and probably missed the directions we provide to those who require assistance. We can only allow topics with such logs in the HijackThis Logs and Malware Removal forum. This restriction is to ensure you get the best help available, from those who specialize in malware anlaysis and removal. It also should prevent you from receiving ineffective or even potentially dangerous advice, whether well meaning or not.

Prior to posting a HJT log, we ask that you please read and follow all instructions in the pinned topic titled Preparation Guide For Use Before Posting A Hijackthis Log. Following the steps in this Guide will allow the HJT Team to quickly help you with specific fixes for what may remain on your system.

Please complete all the steps in the Guide. If you have performed some of them already, then just continue with the next. If you can't perform a step, then skip it and continue with the next. The last step will include downloading and using the most current version of HijackThis if the first line of your log does not appear as follows:

Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2

Please note that it is important that HijackThis be run and a log created while in normal mode. If you run it and create your log while in safe mode, you will be asked to redo it again properly. When you have completed those steps, start a new topic in the HijackThis Logs and Malware Removal forum as directed in the Guide to post a new log.

Please DO NOT post any more logs to this topic, or post a log again in the wrong forum.

The Misplaced HJT Logs forum is strictly a holding area where the BC Staff can assist you with preparations for and to properly post your log. If you have a question or encounter a problem in the Prep Guide, please do post back to this topic; that is what it is here for.

When your new HJT log is posted in the proper forum, please reply to this topic with a link to your new topic. Once that is done, a Member of the HJT Team will analyze your log and assist you with step by step instructions to clean your computer or otherwise advise what needs to be done.

Thanks for your cooperation and good luck.
The BC Staff
MikeD1029
my log.
TMacK
Now that your log is properly posted, you should NOT make further changes to your computer (install/uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc) unless advised by a HJT Team member, nor should you continue to ask for help elsewhere. Doing so can result in system changes which may not show it the log you already posted. Further, any modifications you make may cause confusion for the member assisting you and could complicate the malware removal process which would extend the time it takes to clean your computer.

From this point on the HJT Team should be the only members that you take advice from, until they have verified your log as clean.

Please be patient. It may take a while to get a response because the HJT Team members are very busy working on logs posted before yours. They are volunteers who will help you out as soon as possible. Once you have made your post and are waiting, please DO NOT make another reply until it has been responded to by a member of the HJT Team. Generally the staff checks the forum for postings that have 0 replies as this makes it easier for them to identify those who have not been helped. If you post another response there will be 1 reply. A team member, looking for a new log to work may assume another HJT Team member is already assisting you and not open the thread to respond

If after 5 days you still have received no response, then post a link to your HJT log in the thread titled "Haven't Had A Reply In Five Days?".

To avoid confusion, I am closing this topic.
