Full Version: Vista Crashing On Bootup

My desktop upon starting or returning from sleep or hibernate is getting a black screen or BSD that either causes the computer to hang or automatically reboot. I have to reboot up to 3 times before it will run. If I leave the computer running, I have no problems. I have only had Vista Business running for about 2 months before this problem.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

I have also had that happen to my Acer. I went into the power options to never have it standby or hibernate while plugged in to the AC. I also extended the power settings for battery to a point I felt wouldn't bother me.

Weird glitch, no? I would rather it come out of sleep gracefully but if it won't, at least I can deal with it.

Good luck.

Most often this is caused by minor corruptions in the video drivers - so reinstalling them may help. Also, you may want to use your Vista DVD to run Startup Repair - that'll tell you if it's a problem that Vista can automatically repair for you. Here's a link to the tutorial on Startup Repair: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial148.html

Tried to reinstall the video drivers. Did not work. Reformatted and reinstalled Vista. Did not work. I have it set up so that it does not hibernate or sleep, but when it is shut down and sits for a bit, it has the same problem.

Reformatted and reinstalled Vista - and still have the same issue? Is the system still under warranty? I'd suggest backing up your stuff and then taking it in for service.

If not under warranty, post back and we can start some hardware troubleshooting.
