You may still be able to get your updates for 98 here:
http://windowsupdate.62nds.com/http://windowsupdate.62nds.com/about.phphttp://windowsupdate.62nds.com/whyuse.phpYou will have to install another browser. I recommend Firefox. Then install the plugin for Windiz into Firefox. (The plugin is SAFE.) You can always uninstall Firefox after you get your updates if you don't want to use it for browsing.
Windiz will scan your computer, much like Windows Update, and then give you the list of updates for you to install. If memory serves, it will also put a copy of all the updates you install in a folder on your C: drive. You can save these to CD in case you ever have to do it again, but don't want to use Windiz Update. Of course, each update would have to be manually installed in that case.
Windiz has had to stop working on current updating but according to their announcement, it will still work for updating all operating systems through XP up until they stopped operating "live" a couple of months ago. I don't think they supported Vista yet. The announcement is here:
http://windizupdate.com/forum/As I said, I "think" the site will still work. I hope so. My granddaughter's older computers are in need of reinstall and when I do that for them, I'm hoping I won't have to hunt down all the patches and updates separately.
Good luck!
P.S. Windiz works for Windows Me too.
