Hi I get the blue screen of death below about 50% of the time I start my computer I just built.
the other half it boots up fine then frezzes like 15 min after turning it on and I have to restart.
Any Ideas?

The STOP 0x8e error is typically a hardware compatibility issue. If you are certain that your hardware is fully compatible with Vista, then it may be a driver issue or you may need a BIOS upgrade. Which driver it is depends on what's causing the error. Try searching your hard drive for files ending in .dmp (usually in the C:\Windows\Minidump sub-directory). looks like that bios flash would be a necessity

but according to this page that cpu is not supported

hm sounds like your in a bit of a pickle..

to flash your bios - now this is a *very* general guide....

but *generally* (), make a boot floppy (insert floppy into another pc, right click a drive>format>tick the box that says"make ms-dos boot floppy), then copy like a ecs_flash.exe and bios_update.00 file to the floppy.

boot off of the floppy, and type ecs_flash bios_update.00

now i havent done any research on your specific board, so those steps could be completely wrong, but yeah thats a rough guide...goodluck

it will be interesting, can you use a non-identifed cpu to flash with, mine would never even boot until I flashed with an old cpu that was recognized

the safest way would be to use the boot floppy

hopefully you have a good floppy drive and cable handy

I always write down the name of the flasher and bios.bin file for reference at the command prompt

In the olde days we used to clear cmos drain down power from the mobo etc then flash then immediately after reboot go into bios and set defaults and pray a lot

This computer is running Vista, It does not have a floppy disk drive, who uses them any more?

people who flash bios's , people who only have 1 ide channel and need to ghost ide drives, people who install 3rd party drivers for a xp install, there are a multitude of uses for a floppy drive (today!) and when ever anyone asks me whether to have/not have a floppy drive, i always tell them to have one (for situations like this)

if your pc works "half the time" then i would be looking elsewhere for your answers (bios flash may fix things, but i would have thought that it wouldnt have worked period if the cpu wasnt supported...)

i guess you could have a faulty cpu, but the cahnces of that are......slim

How would I know if the CPU is not aloud by the motherboard,
its a core 2 duo , newegg says that it works with core 2 duo
can someone tell me how to update the bios
I have a clean install of vista and a cd/dvd burner
what do I need to do to get the file i downloaded
onto the cd?
burn an iso? theres no iso file in the driver download
i dont know what to do?
