I recieved a free copy of Windows Vista Business from Microsoft, and burned it onto a DVD.

Now, I also received a product key. I have no clue if it's standalone, or an upgrade key, but will both work if I'm upgrading?

You shouldn't make any changes to your system, while your HJT log is posted, as that could change the results of the posted log, making it difficult to properly clean your system.
At this point, the HJT Team should be the only members that you take advice from, until they have verified your log as clean.

After your log has been reviewed and you have been cleared, have a look at the instructions in How To Perform A Clean Vista Install Using A Vista Upgrade Product Key.
