hi to you all, boys and girls and i hope you all had a good festive break.

i'm new to the site and my knowledge in computers is somewhat mediocre, so.....eh. my windows vista will not start. it boots up ok, but as soon as desktop icons appears a blue screen follows and the the laptop restarts. i've tried everything i know but no joy. can anybody help me please.

Wow thats kinda odd...

Is it at the exact second that the icons appear or about a few seconds later?

If its at the exact time im thinking a corrupted icons .dll file. If its a few seconds it may be a boot up .dll but I don't know.

Try starting in safe mode, run a virus scan or check windows for updates, It may overwrite the corrupted system file.

Good luck, hope this helps.

Does the blue screen have typing on it? If so, what does the typing say (here's a link to some descriptions on obtaining blue screen info: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/top...tml#entry409491 )?

What is the exact make and model of your system - and do you have the repair/restore disks for the system?
