Hi I bought a new desktop that has windows vista on it, it has a sata Hard drive so when i try to installed XP it does not read it or any thing
The vista disk from the manufacture has the sata drivers on it but windows XP disks dont.

Can any one help me please?

and are there any problems that could happen by downgrading to XP? will all the hardware still work?

THANKS

The first problem with this is that you will likely void your warranty - so, if you have to have it serviced, you'll be forced to pay for the service.

The next issue is that you'll have to locate all of the XP drivers for your system. The first, obviously, are the SATA/RAID drivers that you'll need to install by putting on a floppy and hitting F6 at the appropriate time during the installation. Or, you can slipstream these drivers into your XP CD and avoid that hassle (but gain the hassle of having to slipstream the CD).

If you don't have XP drivers for your devices, it's likely that the devices either will not work, or won't work properly for you.

I'm the lazy type - I just bought a USB Floppy drive and use that when I need it.

Others here will recommend slipstreaming the drivers into your XP cd. I haven't done this, but a Google for "slipstream drivers" came up with this link: http://www.maximumpc.com/article/How-To--S...XP-installation
