I got about blank virus on my computer, my dad got rid of it earlier and
now a few days later the stupid thing is back agin. I have got CW shredder,
spybot, spyware gaurd, spyware blaster. I'm not sure how my dad "destroyed"
it last time but i dont care much because it's back.

Every time i access the web a spyware gaurd warning appears.

It says "The following BHO has been added to your system:"
"(64225002-873F-11D9-BACB-000FBA20C9CE)

"ProgID: n/a"
"File Location: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\HNPABAA.DLL"
and prompts me to either Remove BHO of keep BHO
I always go remove BHO

Then says its the virus has changed Internet Explorer curretn
user search page has been changed from
"http://www.microsoft.com/isapi/redir.dll?prd=iear=iesearch
to
about:blank
It prompts me to keep new value or restore old valuse, which i did.
Then it says the virus has changed my home page blah blah blah
to about:blank
Then says "WARNING!Your IE search bar has been changed
from blah blah to about:NavigationFailure
then repeats that a couple times, excluding the first pop up warning

I have also had a look though my computer in directory "C:\WINDOWS"
and i have noticed that a hole heap of folders are transparent; I think that
means they are deleted or currupt or something like that.

Heres a list of the transperant icons that i am aware of anyway
P.S. all of the folders files have the windows icon with the white background, wheter or not thats normal

ShellNew
SYSBCKUP
spool
desktop.ini which looks like a notepad doc with a gear in front
folder.htt which is a hyper text Template
HWINFO.DAT

and that is all of them, i think. To be honest i dont even know if it was the virus
that did this or what, but it wasn't me and i think it has something to do with the
fact that about half of my games dont work anymore
Anyway can someone please help me get rid
of it??

i also had about blank a while back
this may not be the best way to do it but i had to reformat the hard drive to get
rid of it.
if you cant find another way
do this but make sure to back up everything you want
stick to small things like bitmaps word files etc
try not to backup entire folders because some part of it may still be there

Hi Sam23.. if you are having trouble with about:blank you should really post a HijackThis! Log in to the HjT forum for analysis by someone who knows what to do with it. Have you read any of the tutorials here at BleepingComputer? Please read this..

After reading you should post a log into the HijackThisLogs and Analysis forum
Someone can help you remove about:blank. You should really try this before resorting to a reformat. Please keep in mind that the experts here are volunteers and they do as much as they can but it takes time. They do want to help tho. I hope this helps you.

thanx for the replybut how do i reformat the hard drive...
i'm kinda not great with computers.
and if i do, is there something i can do to help prevent it from coming back again.
and does that mean i cant get rid of it will spybot of CW shredder?
