I read elsewhere on the forum that it's better not to let vista automatically install updates as it can lead to problems. My question is, if I disable automatic updates, how do I know which ones to install and which not to?

I have all updates installed and most are Vista security updates, defender or just general OS updates. To keep Vista OS running and optimizing at best performance I would have all updates enabled to automatically update. If you run into problems then you can manually update (has happened to me once).

I haven't had a problem with the security updates but I did have a problem with an optional Intel Graphics update that cause my Acer laptop to Blue Screen. Everything was fine after uninstalling the updated driver but it was a pain.

If you want to be cautious, you can delay the updates for a week or so and see if anyone posts about problems. I am big on applying all security updates but Microsoft has been known to make some huge blunders.

Good luck.
