I put a DVD in my laptop and it didnt play. I did a little research as to what the problem was and a site told me to do this:
" CONTROL PANEL--SYSTEM--DEVICE MANAGER"
I did that and this is what i got:

Any ideas?

What version of Vista do you have and do you have Norton/Symantec running?

Looks like you need a driver or firmware upgrade. Check out who manufactured the drive and go to their site for the latest firmware, etc. Hopefully, that will do the trick.

Sometimes, you can click on Update Driver and it will find it, if it is a well-known model.

Good luck.

How do i know who the manufacture is? or would it be gateway?

If it is a recent laptop, you should try their support. Yes, try Gateway first. They may recognize this symptom right away.

Otherwise, you would have to remove the drive to check the manufacturers label.
