after 2 seperate trojan infections in one month, ive decideed that the free edition of an antivirus program isnt cutting it...
but i am unsure which program to go with
any ideas?

What AV are you using?

Because of the proliferation of attacks being made on computers there isn't a single application that is going to protect you. I run AVG and Zone Alarm which both are active and I still get the occasional infection. About the only thing you can do is keep you protection updated and run regular scans.

Firewalls...are the primary protection against trojans, I believe...not an AV program.
Even though some trojans are included in AV program databases, a good firewall (monitoring what goes in and what goes out) is the best defense, IMO. A good firewall prevents trojans from entry onto the system, which is a cut above detecting them and removing them (as done by AV). lol ive heard this a few times, what some people do is disable their firewall and think its fine because AV is running 
I use AVG which is a free item and have never had a single problem with it as i have all my firewall in place

Nod32 from Eset is the best IMO. Check out the profiles of the malware fighters here and many use this program.

Please be patient. It may take a while to get a response because the HJT Team members are very busy working logs posted before yours. They are volunteers who will help you out as soon as possible. Once you have made your post and are waiting, please DO NOT make another reply until it has been responded to by a member of the HJT Team. Generally the staff checks the forum for postings that have 0 replies as this makes it easier for them to identify those who have not been helped. If you post another response there will be 1 reply. A team member, looking for a new log to work may assume another HJT Team member is already assisting you and not open the thread to respond.
If after 5 days you still have received no response, then post a link to your HJT log in the thread titled "Haven't Had A Reply In Five Days?".
