The trick below lets you shut down XP really fast in just 1-2 seconds. To do this:
  • Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to fire up the Task manager.
  • Keep Ctrl key pressed.
  • Now go to Shutdown>Turn Off in Task manager while keeping Ctrl key pressed all the time.
  • Just keep holding the Ctrl key down till XP suts down.Shouldn't take more than a second. thumbup2.gif
Note: This trick won't harm your PC in any way.It is certainly better than turning of the power button directly!!

Mmmmm. Certainly sounds tempting, but are you sure all data is saved before shutdown? Will be interested in learned comments on this one as I for one get sick of waiting for Windows to shutdown.

Your unsaved work will NOT be saved if you use this emergency shutdown method. So better save it manually before doing this shutdown. This is really handy in cases where freezing apps prevent you from shutting down your PC.

Very handy trick for stuck PCs.
Analogous to CTRL+ALT+DEL,DEL (or CTRL+ALT+DEL x 2) on W98

Sounds interesting...

FYI, on a machine with the Welcome screen disabled, holding CTRL and clicking "Shut Down..." brings up a dialog titled "Emergency Shutdown", warning that any unsaved data will be lost and that it should only be used as a last resort.

TBH, I don't think it's as ominous as Microsoft make it sound tongue.gif

I wouldn't do this, it is most likely going to give you errors and other problems because, it says to be used in emergencys and if Windows XP was meant to turn off that fast then thats how fast it should be when you press "Turn off" but it isn't, meaning that you shouldn't use this method. If you were desperate to turn your PC off quickly or in some sort of emergency that requires you too shut down very fast, then this is where the trick (if it is even a trick!) could be used, otherwise if you just want to turn the computer off, do it normally, it might take a couple more seconds longer but a might save you a couple more dollars by not having errors that cause you too have problems and possibly paying to have them fixed.

Even quicker I believe and safer is to press the windows key on your keyboard, followed by U and U again.
This works on most XP setups, and warns of any unsaved files/applications. Look carefully at the underscored (speedkeys) on your particular set-up.

The windows key will display the Start menu, the following "U" activates the "Turn off computer command" and the last "U" confirms the "Shut Down" command.

Good luck..

yea u're right it seems more safe and warns about unsaved datas, thnxxx
