check your task manager to see what programs are running in the background. press CTRL+ALT together and press DEL this will bring up the task manager. dry.gif check the programs off on the internet if you need answers as to what programs they are....Hope this helps

I would suggest that you perform a free, online scan to determine if there's an active infection on the system. I recommend these scanners:
http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/sandbox...s%2Fdefault.htm (requires IE)
http://housecall.trendmicro.com

If the scanners do not completely remove the infection, then I'd suggest starting with the pinned topics in this forum: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/forum103.html

If you find that you're not infected, please post back and we can work on fixing your Vista installation here.

as for not much memmory left, how much do you have, as it seems the sweet spot for vista is 2gig of RAM and when you look on task mannager there is'nt much left, this is because its been used by superfetch while your not using it, as soon as your system needs more RAM superfetch gives it back. here's a link that explains it all.

As for excessive HDD usage, this is caused buy system restore being set too high by default, some times , like on my system its as high as 40gig, and also set to create restore points at will i think, here's a link to a fix for this aswell, as a guide to how much you should set it too, i halfed mine from 40gig used to 20gig used which returned 20gig of HDD space.
