Well first off say,hi to everyone. You can call me Tony thumbup.gif

Anyways,i just started working and finally got some money to build a computer.I was thinking of ordering a customizable pre-built one but I decided I really wanted to learn how to build it.I think I should be ok with the only problem I can actually see myself having is not knowing if the stuff I buy is compatible with each other.I want to make a computer that can handle games like Fury,Battlefield2142,Gears of War,etc.anything really except Crysis....Primarily for online gaming use.My budget is between about 1000-1500 and any website that lets you pay for parts overtime or a waiting period would allow be to expand that budget(Ie:60$ a month until its paid or no payments for 6 months type of thing)

Before I go,any big differences between Quad and Duo?As in is there a big spike in the performance? Also,im a newb/idiot when it comes to all the technical stuff so sorry if I come off as stupid :D

Heres what I guess im going for in terms of parts.

Case-Honestly I have no clue. Not looking to get a expensive one, just a standard one I guess thatll fit everything in and keep my system cool.

OS-I probaly intend on buying 64bit Vista, but if someone would explain why 64 bit Xp would probaly do me better,im all ears. Also if thats the case, which memory do I buy instead?

Fans/Heatsinks-Agaisn,i dont have a clue if i need one(which I probaly do) and which is a good one for the system im trying to build.Any tips here would be greatly appreciated.

Now this is the other stuff that im probaly gonna have to add.Again, point me in the right direction if I choose something wrong.

Optical Drive--ASUS 20X DVD±R DVD Burner with LightScribe Black SATA Model(ignore the color)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16827135157

( ^^Not sure if I need another optical drive)

Well thats about it.I plan on getting my own screen, speakers, soundcard and flash reader.Everything above is about 1300(Ignoring the case, fans, flash ready,etc...)

But yeah any help on getting me on the right track or getting more bang for my buck would be greatly appreciated. smile.gif!

Looks to me like the parts will all work together, but I'm not the real expert around here, as for a case I would suggest getting one that's tool less. Meaning you don't need any tools to install the drives and parts. You will NEED a fan and heatsink for your CPU, I suggest at least 2 case fans to help keep the interior of your case cool. One fan on the front drawing air in, and one in the back to exhaust the air.

Hang tight and I'm sure some of the people with a lot more knowledge about the parts will reply. Good luck, I think you'll find it's fun and more rewarding building your own. blink.gif

One of the best features of 64-bit is that you can have more then 3.5gb of ram that 32-bit will only allow. Also, some of the newer processors like Quad Cores work better with 64-bit OS. A bad thing about it is some programs aren't really compatible with it, but I have 64-bit vsta, and all my games and programs work fine.

Thats a very nice system, but I think you'd be very disappointed in the graphics card, even if you had 2 in SLI. I'd say go with one of these even though they are pretty expensive:8800GT
That is the list of all of them on Newegg. I'd say go with EVGA or XFX brand.

Well after getting some help from a quite a few people, especially n00b on mirc, heres what my near final thing is.

Case- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16811129021
Cpu- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16819115029
Motherboard- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16813131219
Memory- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820146118
Graphics Card- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814130303
Hard Drive- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16822148288
Dvd Burner- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16827135156
Power Supply- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16817341002

The only thing thats stopped me from placing this order is that I dont know if im gonna have to get extra cooling or fans/heatsinks or possibly theres some part of my system thats overkill and i could get a cheaper thin and still have the same performance. And also a tough question

64 bit Xp or 64 bit Vista and do i get the retail or the system builder's pack?

The case comes with 3 - 120 mm fans (2 front, 1 rear)
The processor is a Retail version - which means it comes with a fan and heatsink for the processor.
The graphics card also has a fan built into it.
The power supply comes with a 120 mm fan in it.

Sounds like enough fans to me - just be sure to set the fans to provide good airflow throughout the case and you should be set.
