The sound on my laptop doesn't seem to be working!! Except I can hear the start-up sound when I turn on my laptop (Acer Aspire 3680 w/ Windows Vista). But after I log-in, the audio doesn't work. I first noticed the problem when I couldn't hear any music off internet websites. And then I tried my Winamp, and it won't play the mp3s. My volume isn't on mute. The sound doesn't even work when I plug in my earphones. And I've looked at the device manager, and it says that the Realtek High Definition Audio device is working properly.

Please help! I'm computer illiterate and I've looked at a bunch of forums, but nothing seems to help and I'm not sure what to do now... sad.gif

Btw, could this be a virus-related problem? I've noticed recently that my computer has been kind of slow, but I've ran my Norton and Ad-Aware and nothing was detected.

Does the sound icon show on the taskbar?

YES the sound icon does show up on the taskbar. It's not on mute, but I know my sound works because when I restart my laptop I can hear the Windows start-up sound.
