Hi all new to this forum and hope you can help me.
I have a new laptop with vista and several scanners that vista drivers are not available. I understand I can dual boot but this seems to complicated for me.
I have a XP formated hard drive from my old laptop that has all the drivers I need. Can I put this in the new laptop and will it boot up? Would I need to reformat the old hard drive after it is installed in the laptop?
Thanks for the support

Hi Tracey, no you can not boot up with the old hard drive and the old drivers will not be compatible with Vista. What are the make and model you are trying to use in Vista?

Hi Monty007, I have a astra 3450 (Umax) scanner and a DiMAGE scan dual 4 negative/slide scanner. The astra scanner has the ability to scan up to 4x5 negatives and slides so it is important in scanning the negatives I have. I am in the process of organizing my life time collection of family photos, slides etc.
I do not like the option of dual boot on the vista laptop. Another option is to purchase a good used/new xp computer to dedicate to this project. I was hoping to get the job done at a low cost. My old computer was a p4 3.2 ghz so I would want at least this fast if not faster.
Thanks for your reply.

Have you tried installing the scanners in XP Compatibility mode (and Run as Administrator). Then, go into the scanner program's directory and instruct each executable there to "Run as XP SP2" and to "Run as Administrator"?

Also, you may want to try the above after disabling UAC. Although I don't recommend disabling UAC for most people, this may be an exception that it's appropriate for.
