Well last night Australians went to the polls and voted to replace the current Liberal government and voted overwhelmingly for the Labour Party. So what will happent to our troops overseas in Iraq? Well I think they will be pulled out now and brought home.
What will the US think of this move? A slap in the face for Australian and US relations?
We have had strong ties with the US in recent years with our former PM John Howard.....but the Labour Party is not so alligned the the US Government.
What do you think?

You wanna swap??

I think most Americans will agree with Australian's decision and use that as a catalyst to persuade our dysfunctional goverment to follow suit.

They most probably will be pulled out and brought home. It will most probably take time of course and I don't see why the American's won't approve of this move either.

But what do I know. Im just a kid.

On friday the new Prime Minister announced troops will begin pulling out of Iraq in the new year.
CTH_Tom
So that could be anytime in 2008?
JohnWho
I would think so.

Moreover, it could begin in 08, but continue into 09 and beyond and still meet the politician's promise.
CTH_Tom
I was just wondering if that fit Bush's promise that by December 15, 2008, all American combat soldiers would be out of Iraq.
Be interesting to see which promise if either comes true.
Alot of dying could happen in a year. mad.gif

Do you have a reference or link?

As can a lot if the troops are withdrawn early or improperly.

I guess you don't watch the major news channels or you did but didn't pay attention to Bush's speech when the House held up his funding bill in November for the war in Iraq until Bush came up with a withdrawl plan. He said that he wasn't going to be too specific on the times and number of troops pulled out but promise that all combat troops will be out by 12/15/08. Do a search on Ruters for Nov. 24 2007 and you'll find it.
Now my concern is that combat personnel will be re-labled as peacekeepers after that date.

Actually I do, but I'm very cautious about the left-leaning MSM's reporting accuracy.

I still need you to provide some links to that information.

Here is a link to a Reuters article from Nov 16, 2007 - Senate Republicans bar Iraq withdrawal plan which shows that Bush would veto the Democrats plan to withdraw all troops by a set date, in this case 12/15/08.

Perhaps you just read it wrong?

Unless, like I've asked, you can provide a link to substantiate your statement?
