Question regarding User Information, . . . . .

Users who have up to now installed an ANSI version of the Avira
AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic software pack on a Microsoft Windows
NT, Microsoft Windows 2000 or Microsoft Windows XP operating system,
receive update information when attempting to update.

When updating, please proceed as follows:

1. Deinstall the installed version of the Avira AntiVir
PersonalEdition Classic.

Can anyone tell me exactly what the above # 1 Means ?

2. Download a current software pack from the downoad section of the
Avira AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic website
http://www.free-av.com.
3. Install this software pack on your computer.
boopme
The prefix 'de' means remove completely. So, remove completely the installed version of the Avira AntiVir
PersonalEdition Classic.

QUOTE
1. Deinstall AVir (6 or 7) *complete*. In some cases you must delete the files of AntiVir manually.
Make sure that all services of AVir are stopped and disabled before you delete AVir.
2. Delete the contents of all TEMP-Folders of windows.
3. Reboot your PC.
4. Open the regedit program of windows (Start -> Execute or something like that). Or use a tool like ccleaner (www.ccleaner.com), jv16-PowerTools and so on.
5. Delete *all* registry entries which are named as AntiVir and h+bedv.
6. Reboot your PC.
7. Install again AVir 7.

If you have an external firewall (not the firewall of windows xp) make sure that all modules of AVir (inclusive the Internet access of the Updater of AVir) are enabled in these firewalls. Use the server privileges for the AVir-Modules.
Now your PC should work proper and the update feature of AVir should work also proper.
It seems that a simple registry entry and/or some external firewalls makes the named problems.

Updates of AVir (vdf-files) are actual very difficult because all servers delivers at the same time the program and the vdf-updates.
You can download the newest vdf-files alone from the homepage from h+b edv or wait a week till the servers works normal again.
