I wanna drop an amd 64 in my pc but don't know if you can do that. I got a p4 2.2 gig now. Not sure what I got for mobo...i think its an intel desktop board or something like that.

Another question. Should I scrap upgrading the pc [2 yrs old] and just build a new one. Im in serious need for a video card too. Now I got this prog everst...it gives a list of your system...to complicated. I dont know what anything really is.

I new...but not a comeplte nub. I got my case open and have been staring at its insides for a week or two now. Tax returns soon too. ty -joe

My advice just scrap the pc(I mean sell it in the paper) and build a whole new one. If you need help there is many here who can help you. I just built my first pc with a AMD 3200 64bit CPU and a ATI 9200SE 128mb video card.

To get a good pc with Amd 64 it might cost around 700.00 before the monitor.

I paid about 800.00, after the monitor though for mine.

If you go for AMD 64,go for socket 939! They are leaving the 749 socket for 939 and 940!

Many people find Everest too complicated so I usually recommend Belarc Advisor. It will tell you what mobo you have. Post back with that and we'll see if you can upgrade.

I recommend Everest Home because it is free, yours to keep & I find it simple to use.
The systems are too complicated.

This article about AMD-64 & WindowsXP 64x is helpful, too. (although, yes... complicated)

Cases are generally made to specification.
Meaning, the new mobo that you want
can be screwed in the same way the
old intel board was.

The power Control unit that fed juice
to the old one might be good enough
to use...fans too.

All your other plug-ins might work.
CD-RW, floppy disk drive, your
peripherals, etc.

New mobo, new memory sticks & the new processor.
New video card mounted to that complete mainboard.
That could be all you need.

Unplug everything with the power cord unplugged,
Take everything in the way out of the way,
remove the Intel board,
add the new one and replace everything.

Plug it in.

Prepare to reload your present OS.
Then add the new driver software that came with the board
unless the instructions call for a different sequence.
