I have noticed there are alot of people on here from all over the world, mostly america. What i would like to know is, have you ever been to england and what are your thoughts on it?

Actually I was in the Navy and we stopped in Portsmouth England for a day or 2. I had a great time, walked around town, found a pub, watched them play darts. I had no idea, back then, that the darts could be so custom and cool looking. Not to mention how good the players were. But I enjoyed it and would go back if I could afford to. blink.gif

I would move there in a flash!

What I think is cool is that they live in castles over there.

jgweed checkout the taxes Brits pay compared to Americans. You may not want to flash.

Ive always wanted to visit there, among other places.

I'd like to go there on a vacation again.
Enjoyed the history, found the people friendly and loved the Underground.
Other than the E.Indian cuisine, food certainly was nothing to write home about.

Me too. I've been to Germany; very interesting place as well.

One of big differences between Europe and the US is history. Even on the East Coast there is just 400 years of it...I was reading about a hotel in Denmark that's been operating that long!

Here on the West Coast, anything past 100 years is "old."

I have a feeling this difference affects our cultural behavior more than we know.

Perhaps, but at least the taxes are spent on the public. I'd like medicine, rails, ect very much and would be willing to pay taxes for it.

I am very unhappy about how some of my tax dollars are being spent...
Joe_Brett
You wouldnt want to move here in a flash...believe me, I do live here after all...

Riddled with immigrants who claim every benefit they can!
Tax too high!

i'm sure there is more things, i just can't think at the moment!

I have visited america, Florida....i loved it, theme parks were ace, but i have to admit...i wouldnt move to america, don't know why theres just something about it that stops me from wanting to smile.gif

I'm wondering if you don't want to have to learn a new language, either?

Nope...i Don't hysterical.gif

But on a serious note, its about time we stopped bending over backwards for every other religion and for all the immigrantas that come here!

It's about time we had some tougher migration laws if you ask me and about time English Day (St. Georges Day....bit of a coincidence being my birthday 23rd April) was a Holiday for everyone!

I agree with that - so that's one area that's unfortunately the same in both countries.

It really winds me up though!!

It's our country, if they want to live here they should abide by our rules and standards of living...

If they can't they can go somewhere else!
TVT
I agree. In the beginning of the 20th century, immigration was about leaving the hellhole they lived in to work for a better life. They made sure to learn at least some english too. Nowadays, all they do is come in and complain that we cant communicate with them and that they have no money. Its bullbleep.

Hmm, what was started ostensibly as a discussion about England generally seems to have been a thinly veiled attempt to rant on the subject of immigration. dry.gif

Well, all I know about England is:

England swings like a pendulum do
Bobbies on bicycles, two by two
Westminster Abbey, the tower of Big Ben
The rosy red cheeks of the little children

My ancestors came from ST TUDY in CORNWALL.to OZ in the late 1890's,and I would like to visit where my Ancestors came from, before I croak it.Also reputed to be the birthplace of Capt William Bligh, of Bounty fame.Looks a pretty place.

Cornwall's beautiful:

This one is Lands End, USA is somewhere over the horizon!

This however, is my favorite site in England, my local Pub, taken from the front window of my house. Convenient eh?

In my opinion, we are not well-liked at all by the Brits. I was a member of a web site hosted by professional airline pilots; I'm an airplane nut. This web site originated in the UK, and anti-American sentiment was rampant. After several heated exchanges with some of the members, I decided to opt out.

Oh, and if you need to be convinced, just remember the full-page headline from a well-known London newspaper after the last presidential election: "How Could 52 Million Americans Be So Dumb?"
jedi
Well, that's a huge generalisation. So a few airline pilots don't like the US, and sections of our press are well-known for being crass, headline chasing idiots. There are 60,776,238 of us, all individuals, all with different opinions, ranging from rampantly xenophobic to tree-hugging liberal and all shades in between. I, for example, have friends in Detroit, I visit the US regularly, and by and large I find americans as good, bad, and indifferent as people of any other country I've visited.
I'd encourage anyone to visit a country if you want to know about it, otherwise it's all to easy to make sweeping statements based on the actions of a few individuals.
