Hello,

recently purchased a LExmark z1520 wifi printer. It says its Vista
compatible but when i am installing I get an Installation Error "Failed to
create print Object 1500 Series. The printer driver is not compatible with a
policy enabled on your computer that blocks NT 4.0 drivers . (1930)" I have
used the installation disk as well as downloaded the latest driver from
Lexmark to no avail.

Any help would be great appreciated.

Are you using an administator account to install the drivers?

Did you use the drivers from here?: http://downloads.lexmark.com/cgi-perl/down...Windows%20Vista

Did you right click on the driver file and select "Run as administrator"?

Another "trick" to try is to TEMPORARILY disable User Account Control in the Control Panel and try installing it.

Let us know how it works out!

Thanks for the response,

Yes i am using the adminstrator account.

I have downloaded that driver.

I have ran the install as an aministrator.

I also tried your last suggestion.

Alas i get the same error message. mad.gif

Does the manufacturer have a web page with a knowledge base or support forum?
Chances are you're not the only one having this install issue with Vista.
A good practice too is to google using manufacturer name, OS name and the
error number or crash EIP address(location of CPU instruction that caused a
crash for software errors... just for future ref.) Sometimes the manufacturer
bug list is online and you'll get a hit with a work-around.

Yes, have done all that. Actually got through to someone at Lexmark who says it should work but was basically useless at telling me how to remedy the situation. It actually suggested phoning microsoft.

Rather than spending a lot of time on this, have you considered returning the printer and exchanging it for a new one? This should confirm if the problem is with the printer.
Jordan L
I would do that. It just bothers me I cant install the driver before i actually plug the printer into the computer.

Jordan, I couldn't get my HP 1610 all in one printer to install on my Vista laptop...I tried for 3 days. I finally uninstalled the software that came with it and figured I'd have to buy another printer. Then I got the idea of just plugging it in....ah, ha! new hardware found crazy.gif

It works great thumbup.gif

Still working at it with new printer. If i look at the drivers it says this is a type 3-usermode driver and it is installed. Yet when i select this driver in the add printer process its keeps says its a windows nt 4.0. Very odd.

I haven't run into this myself so this is just hear-say, but somebody on another
board who is knowledgeable told me he got a lot of drivers to work with
Vista by turning off digital signatures. Your error mentioned a "policy"
so it sounds like something configurable by the administrator. Just a
wild guess.
Jordan L
Thanks,

I have tried to install the software as an administrator. And get the same issues. Sorry for my lack of knowledge but how would i shut off the digital signatures?
Jordan L
I actually have managed to install the printer or at least it tells me it has successfully installed it. The only problem now is i get an error say communication is not available. I have powered down the printer and repowered, disconnected and reconnected the usb cable, checked the firewall settings, and restarted the computer, all to no avail.
