My son has a 5 year emachine PC. It is /was fine for email and web browsing. Over the weekend we noticed the power was off.

It will not restart. We checked the power cord and electricity. No problems with thes two items.

The PC seems dead

Older eMachines were notorious for bad power supplies. Many times it would take out the CPU and motherboard with it. When you turn it on does the fan in the power supply spin? How about the CPU fan on the heatsink . Do you hear a single POST beep (or any beeps)?

No signs of life.

No sounds, no movement, no lights

Thanks

Having repaired several E-machines. Replace the power supply and hope the motherboard is ok. Is there a power supply you could try first? We can reccomend a replacement power supply which model is it?

Here is an interesting link to some chat about emachines.

I have worked on a few and it is sometimes more cost-effective to just buy a new one. A good power supply should set you back $40 or so and I believe that some of the emachines had proprietary Power Supplies. flamethrower.gif

Good luck with whatever you do. icon_thumb.gif

This e machine uses a regular power supply, so a good standard ps should fit. 300 watts should be more that adequate. The emachines that had proprietary power supplies were the older machines, about 1998/1999 era. They all came with Win98 as the OS.

I agree with the above post. I have used Rosewill power supplies as a replacement and they seem to hold up very well.Newegg.com Link. I have used that one, and I am currently using the 450 watt stallion series
