I need to check a hard drive that has no windows program, it has dos. Can I find a program that will run in dos to check my hard drive. I have found a few programs but the require windows to use. And where would I post a question about bios. wacko.gif

What kind of check do you need to do on your hard drive? If you want to run a diagnostic test you can normally download one of these from the website of the drive manufacturer. It won't matter if the disk has Windows, DOS or anything else on it. You could also try using a UBCD, which has several drive diagnostic tools on it.

As for the BIOS question, you can ask in the Hardware forum.

Edit: Added link to UBCD.

I agree with Budapest on downloading a diagnostic utility from your drive manufacturer. You could also use the scandisk utility built into DOS from version 6.2.

More details found here. http://www.computerhope.com/software/scandisk.htm

If it is a true DOS machine, I believe that it uses chkdsk instead of scandisk. (been a long time since I used dos) mellow.gif

At the c: prompt type: chkdsk /f

This does the same thing as scandisk in windows.
