Honestly, I am not sure if this is a Vista issue or a BIOS setting, or just what is causing this, but...
when the computer is off and I turn the printer on, the computer turns on.
when the computer and printer are on and I turn the printer off, the computer turns off.
I would like both devices to turn on and off independantly.
The printer is connected via USB.

Have you checked the properties for the printer to see if it's allowed to wake and sleep the system?
Have you checked the power options to see if remote waking and sleeping are enabled?
Are the printer drivers Vista compatible?
Is the computer really off - or is it in one of those hybrid "sleep" modes (like the Away mode)?
