I would like to inform you that there are some misleading displays in the Startup Programs Database.
An example is http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/startups/xlr8d.exe-8985.html
We can see the big white cross inside red background icon
assorted to the corresponding text "This is an undesirable program. This file has been identified as a program that is undesirable to have running on your computer. This consists of programs that are misleading, harmful, or undesirable."
On the other hand, the detailed text reads: "Added by GridIron™ XLR8. Description: For software developers with computationally intensive applications, GridIron XLR8 is a technology that enables the parallel processing of software applications on multiple CPUs."
A foreign beginner who cannot read English well will probably stop at the bad icon and will quickly get rid of the file!
- CC describes the file as Legitimate (Related to GridIron Nucleo For digital post production professionals using Adobe® After Effects® on a multi-processor or new multi-core computer) -> http://www.castlecops.com/o23list-1693.html
- Grinler had an HJT log with it and discussed the case with the user - the conclusion is "Legit" -> http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic17411.html
Is it a bug? Should it be symbolized as 'Open to discussion'?
Thanks for your response!
We also met the reverse case of an item which symbolized as legit and described as nasty!
