Filename: BTAgile.exe

Registry Value Name: HKCU Run (I think, as there's no brackets!)

Command: Don't know - it's in the list of Start Up files (I use to cCleaner to list them)

File Location: C:\Program Files\BT Broadband Talk Softphone\BTAgile.exe

Description:
Don't know what it does, and British Telecom (BT) wont tell me anything about it (unless I pay to 'phone their Tech Helpline, and there's no guarantee they'll help anyway).

The file first appeared after I was asked to download an upgrade to Softphone (a BT program for making phone calls, texts, etc. online via computer). Their 'ordinary' customer services would only say, "If you don't use Softphone, then just delete it."

They weren't able to tell me what it does or whether I can safely remove it from StartUp without prejudicing Softphone operation, and it's been bugging me ever since as I don't like programs lurking in StartUp if I don't really need them.

Any ideas anyone?

btagile.exe might have come with an update of the software your using.....I would leave it alone unless its causing you problems

Since I don't use Softphone often (as it doesn't work too well, and lowers my sound volume settings) I've deleted BTAgile.exe from StartUp but created a shortcut in my BT desktop folder in case Softphone ceases to work without first activating it.

At long last I've found out what British Telecom claims BTAgile.exe does.

I spoke to one of their Softphone 'advisers' who said, "It'll be to load the drivers for the Agile 'phone."

Although I'm not too keen on the "It'll be" part, it seems BT has a telephone called Agile that plugs directly into a USB port and the BTAgile.exe Startup entry is therefore only helpful if you have an Agile 'phone AND you ALWAYS want to have it activated when you bootup. So;


** If you DON'T have an Agile 'phone - you can safely delete BTAgile.exe from your Startup.


** If you DO have an Agile 'phone, but don't want it activated until you choose to do so - delete BTAgile.exe from your Startup, but find it in the Program Files, right click, create a Shortcut, and place the Shortcut in a convenient place such as the Desktop or (like me) a desktop folder called BT Utilities (where I keep all their stuff) so you can activate it at your pleasure.


** If you DO have an Agile 'phone and want it activated all the time from bootup - leave the Startup entry alone.

Such a pity BT is so reluctant to part with this information (it took me over 6 months) but I hope the above helps.

Why British Telecom foists then hides so well the reason for their actions is, at best, suspect. Commercialism gone mad, I say.
