Im wiring up some LAN wall jacks, i have an option to wire for 586 A OR B? Which one should i use, i dont want to plug my modem up and everything be backwards... wacko.gif

568B is the most common standard. If you go to the store and pick up any CAT5 pre-crimped cable it will be 568B.
Also, if you make a cable with A on one side and B on the other you'll have a crossover cable.

When wiring inside wall jacks, follow the punch down color coding. 568A & B wiring is used for cables only. http://www.omega-electronics.ca/index/use_.../cnt_id/64.html

If it's color coded, wouldn't it be coded to the A or B spec as in this diagram? http://www.omega-electronics.ca/uploads/im...ack_english.png

The normal standard for use in cabling buildings is 568A, because of backwards compatibility to the older AT&T 258A, which may still be in use in older buildings. 568A for this reason is still specified in Government contracts. This might make the difference a little bit clearer: http://www.lashen.com/vendors/Leviton/Datacom/FAQ_TIA568.asp

The punch down chart simple has both coding of A & B..Thats why i needed to know which one. So, Which one is it. I want the jacks to commicate with my modem and patch panel. ??

Ill wait for my patch panel to arrive before wiring any up. So either way i go, A or B, it will commicate with my modem, correct?
oldf@rt
Yes.

Ok, Got my panel in. I've decided on B wiring . As for connecting my panel??? Help...
oldf@rt
Are you connecting from a switch to the panel or direct from the router to the panel?

I Figured it all out, i ditched the patch panel, i bought a d-link switch and plugged my cables directly in, now it works. Thanks for all your help!
