The sound on my computer with windows 2000 has been working fine for years. Recent;ly it stopped. I know the sound system works because if I tap on the micorphone the sound Comes through the speakers. But all sound originating from the computer has been muted. I checked the sound icon on the desktop-it si set right. I did a couple of troubleshooting type things and they all said the drivers or hardware is working.

I am not a computer geek. Just a user. Can anyone tell me what I need to do to be able to listen to music and Accuweather reports online again?

When you say that the device drivers are working, how did you confirm this? Was it through device manager?

Assuming you are using a sound card, the first thing I would do is make sure that it is seated correctly in the slot - cards can get loose on the rare occasion. If you do that, just make sure you discharge any bodily static first.

Then I would download and install the latest drivers from the manufacturer (if its onboard, download from mobo site).
