my current card is a Radeon 9250 (256mb RAM) or so the box and Windows said. Now that I've switched over to Fedora it only registers as a 9200 (which make Beryl and Compiz a dream not a reality). I heard that nVidea had better Linux support. So I'm looking into nVidea DX9 cards (I dont game much anymore and most of my games are DX9 anyway) but I know 0 about nVidea product (i can always assume that higher is better but I doubt that)

So heres what I'm looking for: A DX9 nVidea card that is better then my current one and runs the price range of under $75 (what I paid for my ATi a year ago) PCI-e x16 or PCI connection ( I dont have a AGP slot)

or you may suggest ATi cards that use the flgrx drivers (or better yet come with Linux drivers).

a little better than your present card

I would verify a driver before buying the card

heres what Ive figured out (kinda sorta) 7 series are DX9 cards and 8 series are DX10 cards. What does GT/GTX/GS and all that stand for? Why is it that an ASUS 8600GT costs the same as a ASUS 7600GS and the same goes for some of the other brands as well (eVGA and BFG) same memory and all

This and this will help you out. One of the most important figures is the "Memory Transfer Rate".

I'd pick this card.

Ill Probly go with this ASUS card its available locally @ $10 less. (79.99)

Your opinions of it? (Yeah its a little over the budget but the shipping would have brought it on up into this range)

It's gotten pretty good reviews, I'd go for it. The memory clock is slightly higher than compared to the card I chose and it has a passive cooler instead of a fan. Keep the airflow inside the case cool and steady and you should be alright.

Thanks. I got enough fans to keep the Devil in a Parka (LOL). and will probably add one more (PCI slot fan in current video card's place).

BTW the review that ment the most to me was this one:

QUOTE("NewEgg review")
Pros: Fanless. Good price/value combo. Works great with Linux nvidia drivers.
and not to mention the guy at the shop said that he was using this card with his *buntu box and it was working fine.
