When installing some generic NIC card on a Win98 computer upon boot up I got a "WHILE LOADING PROTOCOL NUMBER 0 - ERROR 59 - A NETWORK ERROR HAS OCCURRED". I deleted the driver and tried again.. same thing. I took the NIC out and put in a Intel Ether Express 100Pro and installed the correct driver.. same thing. Under device manager there is no exclamation mark or conflicts. Whats UP?!

Remove everything from the Network Properties box and reinstall the card. Then go back into Network Properties and install the client and then the protocol. The protocol should bind itself to the card.

I'll give that a try this morning and let you know. I've been looking all over the web for an answer to this and found my EXACT question posted on another board(subscription). So I guess it must be a common problem. The quicker fix for now is I've found another computer that has no conflict with the network card, but I will try what you've recommended this morn. Thanx.

Hi, you don't say if you net card is plug and play? If I get issues with net cards its worth starting windows 98 in safe mode and check device manager for installed network cards. remove all and then restart PC, net card should be detected and the driver installed.
