I noticed the problem first when My DISCover Drop and Play, a gaming platform, didn't start up at all.

after further inspection i noticed that I couldn't play CDs or DVDs either.

i updated all the drivers to no avail


if you could help, it would be greatly appreciated.

OS: Windows XP Home Media Center Edition

CD/DVD-ROM: Samsung SP2004C

If the drive doesn't read anything (CDs or DVDs) than the drive might be shot. First try to use a lens cleaner (you can get one at your local Best Buy, Staples, etc) and try that. If there is no avail, then you'll need to look into a new drive.
