I'm planning to buld the most powerful computer possible, but I need some help. Can anyone give me some tips on what hardware, software etc. that i should or can use thats affordable? I am planning touse a lot of money to make one. by the way I'm still kinda new to actually putting computers together so please make your post as simple as possible.
Mr Alpha
Question number one: What are you planning on doing with this super computer of yours?
jwinathome
The Enterprise computer system is controlled by three primary main processing cores cross linked with a redundant melacortz ramistat and fourteen kiloquad interface modules. The core elements are based on FTL nanoprocessor units arranged into twenty-five bilateral kelilactirals with twenty of those units being slaved to the central heisenfram terminal. . . . Now this is the isopalavial interface which controls the main firomactal drive unit.

Just kidding with the above...seriously though...why are you doing this, and how much do you have to spend?

I'm also looking for a Terrabyte External Hard Drive. I've seen a few, but I was wondering if anyone could recommend any?
ØÇë¦òT
Buy something like this and put it in an external case. . .Buying one with a case would bump the price up a LOT. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16822145164

If money was no object I would get This.

Here's a nice guide to several different levels of system (Budget, HotRod, and God boxes): http://arstechnica.com/guides/buyer/guide-200706.ars

How long does a thread laston this forum, because bulding a super computer may take me a while, and i'm planning on using Windows Vista Ultimate formy OS. Please don't use so many abreviations, because I'm a simple person and I get confused.

You keep posting to it and it'll be around

now i have the funds to begin building the best comp that i can, and i have no idea what I'm getting myself into. I'm gonna need for someone to guide me through the process of putting this thing together, because i read that many compatibility issues could arise. first i want to start by showing the chassis that i was thinking of using. if anyone knows of any better chassis that i can find or where i can find some cheaper please post the link or location i can find it. if you believe that one is better than the rest please explain why thoroughly.

The case is almost purely a choice....

I personally am looking at this one, even though the antec 900 would be just about with this one, if it weren't so expensive.

You should really give us a price range...

I have approximately 700 bucks to drop every month

Every month? Meaning like, after two months, you could spend 1400 on the computer? I'm thinking that ~ 1300 can give you a pretty good higher end computer that will run almost anything these days.

Also, what are you going to try and use it for? I see you said anything, but its too general. What will you mostly use it for? Email? Games? ect?
Mansa
Anything I would need it for, but i would mostly play games on it, and by making great computer i could try many other things.

Weird... I just watched that episode last night!

Two guys made a bona fide super computer for only around $2500. You can read about it here. Wouldn't be much good for games, though...

Fine, I'm going to take that as about a 1500 budget, and hope it'll work well with you. Around that area is where you can get some of the best things of the class of computer, but its right about on the edge where it starts to be a lot of money for just a little upgrade...

I'll try and cobble a newegg wishlist or something with something that I would suggest.
Mansa
cool. I'm just posting to show that I'm still checking the thread, so keep the suggestions coming.
Vaerli
alright, here's a proposed list of stuff that I would get for around 1500 USD through newegg.

Case

Processor (actually, for 1500$, I would go for the Q9450, but newegg took it down because they ran out of stock, and they probably won't get some anytime soon.)

graphics cards (two of these, in SLI mode.)

Motherboard

Memory

Hard Drive

Power supply

Of course, thats just for the actual computer. You probably will want a new mouse, keyboard, and possibly monitor too.

And, once calculated out (with about 70$ more for a better processor), it equals 1380.93, without shipping. Add 70$ on that to be safe, and you've got about 1450 for a computer that can run almost anything, and do tons of stuff. You might want to go with slower RAM, but get more of it... DDR2 800 is going really cheap...
figgis41
ok,,, the case has to be an antec 900
http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/antec_900/
that leave's about $550 out of this months pocket money,,,, how about a big PSU,,,,
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16817814002
$150 left out of this months money,,,, mmmmm,,,, i know,,, take your girl out,,
see ya next month.

Will there be any compatibility issues? How can you tell if the parts are compatible?
ComputerWhizz7
Sounds good, but what Games or Software are you going to be using? Then you have to find out which is the most resource hungry so then we can offer more advice for you. thumbup.gif

We've already asked him that like... 2 or 3 times before... He continues to say that he just wants it to be very versatile..

Okay, about compatibility, I checked all of those when I put together that list. I'm used to it now...
Mansa
What kind of OS should I use? Is it compatible with Vista? I was also thinking to try and partition the drive so that I could use more than one OS. Whats another Good OS that I could use?
dark messenger
Id go with XP for now, until its support stops next year. Then when support stops, you can get vista, it will be cheaper and running much more smoothly than it is now. And If you do do that then you wont really need to worry about much upgrading, and anyways if money is of no object then any uprades to the mobo and ram wont be too much of a problem...

But if I was you, Id get a good computer now, but not a super one, you can upgrade whenever you want, whats the point of getting a "super computer" Its like buying the most expensive car in the world, but you cant drive, or buyin a 16million dollar mansion for your cat to live in..

If I was you, I'd be putting that 700 a month into an ISA bank account and let the interest grow each month.. but thats just me..

Ooh, you have to get liquid cooling for the computer too, especially if you want it to show off... I would also probably insure it smile.gif

Good luck!
