Rather than re-up my subscription to NAV, I'd like to download AVG or Avast. Can I do so and run a new program successfully without doing an uninstall on NAV?
Symantec has an entire section devoted to problem-solving uninstalls....does this mean that problems are just waiting to "get" me, upon uninstalling NAV?

No for the most part you are ok to go into the add/remove programs and uninstall nav. I would definitely do that before installing avg

You can have all sorts of antivirus programs installed on your computer, as long as you do not run more than one at a time. I would advise downloading whatever application you finally decide upon, then update it; then uninstall NAV completely, and run your new AV.

Any special advice about properly uninstalling the Live UpDate portion?

Uninstall it via add/remove programs.

Advice? I want to do this uninstall right, the first time. (see link to popup received, when I tried to uninstall what I thought was the last "piece" of NAV). I shut down, BTW, then restarted, and this message recurred.

Probs with NAV uninstall

I just un-installed NIS 2005 and got the same message when I went to add/remove to un-install liveupdate 2.5, I clicked yes. That should be the last bit of Norton left.

I un-installed in this order:

Add/remove NIS 2005, restart computer.

Add/remove liveupdate 2.5, restart computer.

Everything un-installed without any problems. The only folder I had left is Symantec folder with key# in case I want to re-install it. I did not delete this. Kept it. It does not interfer with the Avast that I installed..

I don't know what year NAV you have, so here is some info on all years. The preferred way is thru add/remove. If you have problems, read this. I never had problems. I have un-installed NIS 2001, 2003, 2005.
