Then I was going to delete the LEGACY_WINIK, but when I tried so, I had the following message "Cannot delete LEGACY_WINIK: Error while deleting key" Would have been nice if it would have told us what kind of Error. I then also thought I trick Panda and use Mozilla and do the scan using Mozilla, but they want me to use Internet Explorer. And also they want me to use any version later than IE5. Well I am using IE 6.0 I did fix the xlaunch.exe with Hijackthis, but I did not fix the shortcut to numlock.vbs.lnk as I was talking to the friend who did set up the computer and he actually put that in, so the numlock was working as soon as the computer was turned on. After all that, I thought I still send you the latest HijackThis logfile and I hope it will give you any hints how to delete WINIK Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1 Scan saved at 7:07:44 PM, on 04/05/2007 Platform: Windows 2000 SP4 (WinNT 5.00.2195) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP1 (6.00.2800.1106) Running processes: C:\winnt\System32\smss.exe C:\winnt\system32\winlogon.exe C:\winnt\system32\services.exe C:\winnt\system32\lsass.exe C:\winnt\system32\svchost.exe C:\winnt\system32\spoolsv.exe C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\aswUpdSv.exe C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashServ.exe C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5\guard.exe C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVGFRE~1\avgamsvr.exe C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVGFRE~1\avgupsvc.exe C:\WINNT\System32\svchost.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\VS7Debug\mdm.exe C:\winnt\system32\regsvc.exe C:\winnt\system32\MSTask.exe C:\winnt\system32\stisvc.exe C:\winnt\System32\WBEM\WinMgmt.exe C:\winnt\system32\mspmspsv.exe C:\winnt\system32\svchost.exe C:\winnt\Explorer.EXE C:\winnt\SOUNDMAN.EXE C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVGFRE~1\avgcc.exe C:\Program Files\ICQLite\ICQLite.exe C:\PROGRA~1\ALWILS~1\Avast4\ashDisp.exe C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger\MsnMsgr.Exe C:\winnt\system32\ctfmon.exe C:\Program Files\FinePixViewer\QuickDCF.exe C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashMaiSv.exe C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashWebSv.exe C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Messenger\ymsgr_tray.exe C:\WINNT\system32\msiexec.exe C:\Documents and Settings\Nick\Desktop\HijackThis.exe R3 - URLSearchHook: Yahoo! Let's get it another way:
Start regedit and navigate back to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\Root\LEGACY_WINIK Left click once on Legacy_Winik so it is highlighted. Then click on the Edit menu and select permissions. Left click once On Everyone to highlight it and then put a checkmark under Allow for Full control. Then press the Apply button and then the OK button. You should be back at the normal regedit screen. Now try to delete the LEGACY_WINIK key. -------------------- |

I've got nothing to chose from called "permissions" under edit. All I get is New, Delete, Rename, Copy key name, Find, Find next. But mabye is helps to mention that there is a folder under Legacy-Winik which is called 0000 and that folder contains the follwing and I try to type it in as clear as possible and I hope it will show up the way I type it.
Name Type Data (Default) REG_SZ (value not set) Class REG_SZ LegacyDriver Class Guid REG_SZ {8ECC055D-047F-11D1-A537-0000F8753ED1} ConfigFlags REG-DWORD 0x00000000(0) DeviceDesc Reg-SZ WinIK Legacy REG_DWORD 0x00000001(1) Service REG_SZ WinIk I don't know if it is of any help. But I hope. But maybe you knew all that already anyway. I am so glad you are trying to help so hard. And I do believe somehow we will get there. Thanks again and again and again |

Download the following two files and save it to the C:\ folder of your computer.
http://www.xs4all.nl/~fstaal01/downloads/swreg.exe Then download the attached batch file and save it on your desktop. The attachment will appear at the bottom of this post. Once the batch file has finished downloading, double-click on it. Then reboot and post a new regsearch as described in previous posts.
Attached File(s)

Let's see one last hijackthis log, but it appears that the last key of that infection has now been removed. Great job! You can now delete the batch file and the swreg.exe file.

Happy birthday and here is your present : Your log is now clean.
Great job! One last question, do you know what this entry is for? O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [niteLink] C:\niteLink FOS Interface\Nitel Client.exe Now that your clean: This process will clean out your Temp files and your Temporary Internet Files. Please do both steps: Step 1:Delete Temp Files To clean out your temp files, click on Start and then run, and type %temp% and press the ok button. This should open up the temp directory that your machine uses. Please delete all files that are found there. If you get an error when deleting a file, skip that file and delete all the others. If you had trouble deleting a file, reboot into Safe Mode and follow this step again. You should now be able to delete all the files. Step 2: Delete Temporary Internet Files Now I want you to open up Internet Explorer, and click on the Tools menu and then Internet Options. At the General tab, which should be the first tab you are currently on, click on the Delete Files button and put a checkmark in Delete offline content. Then press the OK button. This may take quite a while, so do not be alarmed with how long it takes. When it is done, your Temporary Internet Files will now be deleted. Finally, and definitely the MOST IMPORTANT step, click on the following guide and follow each step listed there: Glad I was able to help and if there any other problems related to your computer please feel free to post them in the appropriate forum. Though we help people with spyware and viruses here at BC, we also help people with other computer problems! Do not forget to tell your friends about us! -------------------- |

Thank you sooooo much. You guys are absolutely fantastic. I never thought I would be able to find someone who could help. And of course I will tell other people about you and I will definately have a very strong word do my husband in teaching him what to download and what not. I will do those last steps now and then I am sure that I won't be able to get my husband again of the computer. He is very thankful as well.
Have a lovely day and thank you so much again Tanja |

If you find out let me know. I don't think it is bad, but I want to add it to our startup database and not a lot of info on it.
Can you do this last thing for me please : Download this program: submit files packer Highlight the files listed below in bold and right-click and selecting copy. C:\niteLink FOS Interface\Nitel Client.exe Then start the file packer program and right click in the white box and select paste to paste the copied file names in the field. Then press the Continue button. I will create an archive with these files and a small log on your Desktop that starts with a name like requested-file[date].cab. Rename this file to yourmembername.cab (for example grinler.cab). Then go to: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/submit-malware.php and fill in the required fields and browse to this file on your desktop. Finally click on the Send File button. Hope you had a great birthday! -------------------- |

All sent. And yes I had a great party. Took me a while to recover.
I will check in a couple of days if there is anything else I need to do. But I hope we got rid of it all. Computer works fine. Thanks a lot again and again and again..... |
