Sounds like they are going to fight it to the bitter end.

id like to make sure that people know that I do not support piracy, never would. but this story also deserves the appropriate breaking news: http://tech.yahoo.com/news/afp/20090423/tc..._20090423161048
interesting information. keep in mind, that pirated software makes up a huge amount of the malware that we see here, im only in training now, but i can see an obvious trend -------------------- You can just call me Chris

Although I don't use torrents, I'm still sad to see them get in trouble like this...
QUOTE Founded in 2003, The Pirate Bay makes it possible to skirt copyright fees and share music, film and computer game files using bit torrent technology, or peer-to-peer links offered on the site. None of the material can be found on The Pirate Bay server itself. If this is the case, they can't really get in trouble... They aren't hosting the files, they simply index the torrents. What makes me mad is there are quite a few torrent sites out there that make you pay for membership and Pirate Bay is free (from what I know) and those other sites aren't getting in trouble at all! If Pirate Bay moves to an Offshore Host (if they aren't on one already) they probably wouldn't have this going on... I also hear that BitTorrent is run by the government... They should've noticed downloads from all these other servers... Goes to show you what a crappy government we got. This post has been edited by dancingcactus27: Apr 24 2009, 12:54 PM |

Ye well the trial-outcome surprised alot of people and it seems the judge wasnt fair either. As the judge was member of anti-piracy groups. There are rumours about a retrial, which is likely to come.

I was reading an article during trial that the prosecution dropped half of what they were suing for because they didn't understand the technology. And they brought up the fact that google can be used as a bit torrent search engine.
Its like suing google for having an index of some identity theft site. Google has no hand in the identity theft site just index's it. I hope they get a retrial. That is ridiculous. uByte -------------------- You miss 100% of the shots you don't take. . -Wayne Gretzky

Eh, I don't like that site very much...
Technically, they aren't moving the data, and therefore they should not be able to be sued by law. It is just an index. They are being charged for copyright infringement though, which if they delved into the law, they might be able to sneak around it. I like to see people reap their rewards, but I know many people pirate things for different reasons, especially software/games. The internet is changing times, to say the least. -------------------- Q6600, 4GB g-skill, 8800GT, P5N-D motherboard ![]() My art |

Even if they take down TPB there's always going to be a new site coming up. Didn't they get the point when metallica started all that napster bullbleep. The public is ALWAYS going to find a way to share music, movies, and other data. It's just the way it is. I just think it's such a waste of more money to try and stop them. Because if i can't find something on TPB, ill just go to demonoid, or torrentspy or torrentz.com...the possibilities are endless.

Torrentspy is down for more than a year already my friend xD, but ye there are tons of alternatives, however ive read that the piratebay TRACKER tracks about 90% of the torrent-p2p, someone would have to take that over. -------------------- Every one goes fun fun fun Who is this doin' this synthetic type of alpha beta psychedelic bleepin'? ~Chemical Brothers - Elektrobank |
